At Midsomer Norton Primary school we believe that every child deserves access to a wide and varied curriculum, helping them to develop skills and broaden their knowledge of the wider world.
We take a topic approach to our planning and in doing so, we endeavour to excite and motivate pupils, so that they are keen to learn and discover.
What guides us?
We use National Curriculum guidance to develop our own custom built curriculum, running over a two-year cycle. This is reviewed and adapted annually, ensuring that every year is fresh and relevant to an ever changing world.
In Nursery and Reception, we follow the Foundation curriculum (see above). From years 1 to 6 we take a thematic approach to learning. Maths is taught discretely and French is taught from year 3.
Pupils take pride in their curriculum books, which show a diverse range of skills and knowledge in different curriculum areas, including English, Science, Geography, History, and Religious Education.
Topics for 2017-18
Each team will create a topic web to inform parents about the key learning themes for the term. See year group pages for topic webs and weekly learning updates.
|Year 1 and 2||Year 3 and 4||Year 5 and 6|
|Term 1||Who am I?||Stone Age to Iron Age||Walk like an Egyptian|
|Term 2||Fire!||To infinity and beyond|
|Term 3||Wonderful World||Jungle fever!||Bombs overhead!|
|Raiders and invaders||Raging rivers|

In addition, in year 1 and 2 we will send home a topic bubble, so that your child can share with us something they already know or something they might like to find out about their topic.
